Update 2025

14 November 2025

Thank you to everyone who participated in Kerbside Electric Vehicle Charging Points Pilot survey. This survey will help Council plan for future instalments for Kerbside Electric Vehicle Charging Points within our LGA.

We recently checked in with the community about the Kerbside Electric Vehicle (EV) Charging Points Pilot, which has been running for almost 12 months. Through an online survey and email submissions, we heard from 64 participants.

Key insights:

  • Support for expansion: Most respondents agreed the pilot helps reduce barriers to EV ownership and want to see more chargers installed.
  • Usage patterns: While many hadn’t used the chargers, regular users highlighted locations like Austinmer Tennis Courts, Railway Parade (Thirroul), and Victoria Street (Wollongong) as convenient.
  • Challenges raised: Parking limitations, charger compatibility, app usability, and the need to bring your own cable were common concerns.
  • Suggestions: Dynamic pricing, extended parking allowances for EVs while charging, and new locations in Northern Illawarra to support commuters.
